Sabina Morphis
Sabina came to us in Spring 2022 worried that she had a growing lump by her left collar bone. Online searches led her to suspect lymphoma. Many months and tests later, we knew we were facing Stage 2B Hodgkin Lymphoma.
We live in the Richmond, Virginia, area and have doctors who took Sabina's concerns seriously and helped us navigate an intense schedule of tests, surgeries, and treatments. Cancer is scary, painful, and disruptive. Sabina's reaction to chemotherapy landed her back in the Children's Hospital of Richmond after every round. We wondered if her body would be able to rebound from the onslaught of treatments and grew profoundly grateful for each of the nurses, doctors, pathologists, tests, and treatments at CHOR. We were increasingly aware of the blood donors and providers that literally saved her life again and again. We made friends who were on their own journeys. Junior year of high school quickly faded off our priority list but her St. Catherine's School community rallied behind Sabina. We benefited from ASK, Connor's Heros, Ronald MacDonald House, Kourageous Kids, Lighthouse Retreats, Make a Wish, and other groups that gave our family and Sabina what we didn't even know we needed.
Sabina's last day of chemo was January 31, 2023 and her reaction was life-threatening. Our church's prayers lifted us to the heavens for step-by-step miracles that connected us and the Doctors to divine healing. Sweet, patient Sabina had to go through surgery and recovery and returned home on February 10, 2023 to recover. As we write this, she is preparing for her Senior year at St. Catherine's School.
Sabina rang the cancer free bell on March 14 and is in remission. Sabina is eager to join My Cancer Registry in helping provide comfort to other cancer patients and families. All of us are profoundly humbled and commit to being Here to serve.
